The main types of axes
1、 Classified by core use
Tool axe
Household chopping axe: The weight is concentrated between 600g-900g, with a sharp and durable blade, suitable for daily chopping, logging and other needs.
Woodworking axe: a small axe (with a blade length of about 12cm), designed to be lightweight and used for fine wood processing and carving.
Fire axe: made of high-strength steel, with both breaking and dismantling functions. The axe handle is mostly made of anti slip materials to improve rescue safety.
Outdoor axe
Camping axe: Lightweight design (weighing less than 1kg), portable and multifunctional, such as a single blade hand axe with a crane beak design that can handle both chopping wood and digging.
Survival axe: Medium sized axe (blade length 15-20cm), with functions such as logging and building shelters, mainly made of high carbon steel.
Woodcutting Axe: Heavy duty axe (blade length over 25cm) with a long handle to increase swing potential, suitable for handling thick and sturdy wood.
Weapon Axe
Tomahawk: Historical cold weapons, such as the ancient Chinese axe and the Nordic double-edged axe (Labrys), have both practical and symbolic meanings of power.
Tactical axe: Modern design, using composite material handle, emphasizing portability and versatility, commonly used in military or tactical scenarios.
2、 Classified by structure and design
Single blade axe: With only one side of the blade opening, it has high precision in chopping and is commonly used in woodworking axes and some camping axes.
Double edged axe: with symmetrical edges on both sides, such as the Tomahawk, suitable for throwing or symmetrical chopping.
Multi functional combination axe: combining axe with hammer head, crane beak and other tools to expand outdoor use scenarios.
3、 Special materials and process types
High carbon steel axe: It has high hardness and maintains sharpness for a long time, but requires regular rust prevention and maintenance. It is mostly used in professional logging scenarios.
Stainless steel axe: Strong rust resistance, suitable for use in humid environments, but low hardness.
Composite material axe: The axe handle is made of glass fiber or carbon fiber, which is shock-absorbing and impact resistant, commonly found in high-end outdoor axes.
